Do not allow a person heavier than the weight restrictions to use the bunk bed ladder or the top bunk. Sturdy bunk beds and loft beds can typically accommodate up to 400-500 lbs. on the top bunk, but not all bunk beds are up to this standard. Never allow a child under 5 years old on the top bunk of the bunk bed. This is a difficult rule to enforce. They may get up there with apparent ease, but most parents know that, at that age, they may not understand the safety issues on the top bunk, or know the safest way to use the ladder coming down. The return trip may not go so well.
Sturdy bunk bed ladders will help your child stay safe. If you've had enough trips to the emergency room, or just don't want to envision that circumstance, make sure that the bunk ladder for your child's bed is easy to use and meets the safety criteria above.
